What is the function of a Music Video?

Music Videos are used as an illustration and visual attempt to accentuate what the lyrics mean and convey the message of the song. It can also be recognised that different genres of music e.g R&B, Indie/Alternative have music videos that cater to the specific genre their music is placed in.

For example:

The Media is all about conveying representations of: ethnicity, age, gender, sexualtity e.t.c, which is generally shown by stereotypes which are traditional ways of outlining what genre the music video is.

For example...

In Indie/Alternative music videos casual clothing can be recognised, also the camera shots featured are long shots which would show the entire band and close-ups of the lead singer.

Arctic Monkeys are a perfect example of the conventional shots being followed for an Indie/ Alternative music video. The performance is live, therefore it has a lack of narrative, although their image as a band is amplified through this performance.
