Research - Overview of Costume, Setting and Location in Music Videos

We analysed three videos and they were three different genres. We looked at the use of costume as well the setting and location in relation to the song.

R&B - R. Kelly ft. T.I & T-Pain - I'm A Flirt.
Use Of Costume
He had 5 costume changes in total and they were all in the same style of clothing.
We noticed that each time the chorus came or the verses changed, his outfit would change and it was all changed on the beat of the song.
The lyrics were 'I'm a flirt' and the girls around him were dressed provocatively around him wearing bikinis and skimpy clothing.
His clothing is very stereotypical in the R&B genre as he dressed quite like a 'gangster' type.

Use of setting and location.
There are five different locations and he has a different costume in all five.
The setting usually matches

Electro/House- Martin Garrix- Animals

Use Of Costume
Throughout the video there were no physical costume changes, however various outfits were worn throughout the video during the different locations.
The song is Titled 'Animals' which links to the outfits the main participants are wearing as they all wear different animal masks for example the tiger mask as we can see in the Gif. Also the jumpers that they were wearing depict an image of  a roaring tiger on the upper back. In terms of the costume being typical towards the Genre it is hard to conclude as the genre 'Electro/House' is a fairly new concept, therefore no stereotypical clothing is yet to be portrayed.

Use of setting and location
There a various location throughout the video. At the beginning, the character appear to be in a small room playing poker. The scene then changes to a long corridor with white walls. Moreover, the scene which is mostly shown is when the main character appear to be in this massive club. Lastly, they are in what may be a car park with only one car in it.
The use of setting and location definitely matches the idea of the song because they are bizarre and strange places to be and one would perhaps think of these kind of locations when listening to the song, specially the club.

Use of Costume
The main character's costume does not change throughout the entire video. His costume would is something that would have been worn perhaps in the 1970s or 80s, which relates to the setting and the 'high school prom' location used. Usually this sort of costume would not be used for this type of genre. However, as the narrative seems to be set up, it is not relevant.

Use of setting and location
The are three locations in the video. One is at the beginning in the corridor before entering the big hall. Then is the big hall, where the event is taking place, and then near the end when the main character appears to be in the toilet. The 'high school prom' theme relates to the type of costume because it is something one would expect to see. The setting and location could be linked to the genre as videos for this genre usually involve a large crowd and a band
