Research Ancillary- Why Digipaks?

Why do people still by digipaks and why are they still relevant?

  • Some people are collectors and want a physical item rather then a download.
  • Usually get to see behind the scene images and never seen before images.
  • Some people are collectors therefore want a physical copy
  • Hard core fans of a particular artist would just 'have' to also have a physical copy
  • Older people who cannot use the internet as well of own an ipod like physical copies

Rhiannas digipak included images that had never been released exclusive to the physical copy

Researching Ancillary - What to Do and What to Not Do

What to do and what not to do

Research - Digipaks

Today we looked at different digipaks and examples of what to do and what not to do when it comes to making them. We then had a go at making our own on Photoshop to see how we would make our own and to familiarise ourselves with the programme.

Here is my attempt at a digipak and... well... Rebecca said she likes it so i'm just going to agree with her.
My artists name is 'Ka$$andra' and her album is called 'Fuego' (which means Fire in spanish, hence the flames (synergy).

Hopefully our own album cover will be better than this... but photoshop was annoying me so I got a bit frustrated and couldn't really do much, and the pictures were terrible quality.

Overall Do's & Dont's

Do's & Dont's of Digipaks

In this lesson we saw examples of good and really really bad work. Hopefully, we wont be the group that is shown as an example of bad work next year. We learned about the Do's & Dont's of digipaks and what we should and shouldn't do when working on our digipaks.

We need to make sure we have our artists face in the center, and they will be the biggest thing on the digipak instead of the artists name and  make sure the fonts that we use can be easily read and stand out against the background. We also need to have all the conventions of a digipak, like barcodes, the record company logo, the name of the artist and album title, website and any relevant promotional stickers or labels. Also, when we do come around to writing on digipak and pick our colours, we need to stick to no more than three colours and two fonts, otherwise it'll look a bit... well... tacky. There I said it.

We shouldn't go crazy with photoshop effects and fonts, especially ones that don't fit in with our genre, and just keep things simple. Also, if an image doesn't fit in by itself, we can't stretch it out so it will fit otherwise the picture ends up pixelated and grainy, also we need to make sure not to use irrelevant images just to fill up any empty spaces.

I can't wait to start on our digipak and HOPEFULLY they're worthy of the Hall Of Fame!

Review of making the music video

Whilst creating my Music Video I found out alot of new aspects that come with this. Through exploring Final Cut I was able to use different aspects of editing. I found using Final Cut a little stressful at times, as when editing layering all the shots up so that my lip syncing was in time with the music was quite a challenge as there were so many shots. However, it was worth it to see my video in perfect timing.

The filming process took alot of determination as wearing thin items of clothing on the Southbank in Novemeber/December is not good. I was frozen during this process and it was quite uncomfortable having to carry on filming whilst shiverring, but it had to be done and after several nights of filming I think we were all happy that it was over! Despite the fact it was cold, the dedo light ran out and on one occasion our memory cards didn't work we did have fun whilst filming.

I feel that our use of camera work demonstrated in the video shows a sense of variety...

Top left Mid Shot                                                                            Top right High Angle  Shot
Bottom left wide shot                                                                   Bottom right Low Angle Shot

We also used extreme close ups of my eyes which were used throughout the video which illustrate our concept of our artist viewing the City that she lives in at night time.

Production - We did it! Music Video is Complete

After painful nights filming, crazy arguments and more, we finally finished the music video….

Production - Trevor Helping Us With Filters

We asked Trevor for some help because there was a light that kept appearing in the top corner of the shot, so we were looking for a filter or a way to try and hide this light so it doesn't appear. This is what he said…

We were able to solve this problem!
